Plumbing

In PHILLY-TECH’s general plumbing program, students will learn about residential, commercial and industrial plumbing. Students will learn about water supply and wastewater drainage systems for residential, commercial and industrial structures. PHILLY-TECH’S program is based on the extensive and sophisticated nature of plumbing in these three different fields of plumbing. PHILLY-TECH’s students will learn about different plumbing materials and their applications. Students will learn sanitary drainage, stormwater drainage and potable water.

Throughout the program, students will also receive training in soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and customer service. The curriculum will be regularly updated to keep up with evolving plumbing technology and industry standards. Graduates of this program will be well-prepared for careers as plumbing technicians in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

Diploma in Plumbing Technician Program

Duration: 2 years (4 Trimesters).

PLUM 100: Introduction to Plumbing

  • Overview of plumbing systems and their importance
  • The role and responsibilities of a plumbing technician
  • Historical development of plumbing technology

OCCSAF 100: Occupational Safety

  • Workplace safety regulations and practices in plumbing
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Recognizing and avoiding plumbing hazards

PLUTM 100: Plumbing Tools and Materials

  • Identification and use of plumbing tools
  • Common plumbing materials (pipes, fittings, etc.)
  • Safety procedures for using plumbing tools

PLUSP 100: Plumbing Systems and Piping

  • Types of plumbing systems (water supply, drainage, gas)
  • Pipe materials and selection
  • Basic pipefitting and jointing techniques

RPLUI 100: Residential Plumbing Installation

  • Installation of plumbing fixtures in residential settings
  • Water distribution systems in homes
  • Drainage systems and venting

WATH 100: Water Heaters

  • Water heater installation and maintenance
  • Tankless water heaters and energy-efficient options
  • Gas and electric water heater

RPLUR 100: Residential Plumbing Repairs

  • Identifying and repairing common plumbing issues
  • Faucet and toilet repairs
  • Blocked drain and leak repairs

PLUCOD 100: Plumbing Codes and Regulations

  • Building codes and standards for residential plumbing
  • Permits and inspections
  • Compliance with local and national regulations

CPLUS 100: Commercial Plumbing Systems

  • Design and installation of plumbing systems in commercial settings
  • Water supply and distribution in large structures
  • Commercial drainage and waste systems

BACKF 100: Backflow Prevention

  • Understanding backflow and cross-connections
  • Installation and maintenance of backflow prevention devices
  • Backflow testing and certification

INDPLU 100: Industrial Plumbing

  • Plumbing in industrial facilities
  • Specialized piping systems (chemical, process, etc.)
  • Safety considerations in industrial plumbing

PLUSM 100: Plumbing System Maintenance

  • Preventative maintenance of plumbing systems
  • Inspection and maintenance of commercial plumbing fixtures
  • Maintenance planning and scheduling

ADPLUT 100: Advanced Plumbing Technologies

  • Green plumbing and sustainable practices
  • Plumbing for hydronic heating and cooling systems
  • Water-saving technologies and fixtures

PLUFIEL 100: Practical Training and Fieldwork

  • Hands-on experience in residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing

PROMAN 100: Project Management and Documentation

  • Project planning and scheduling for plumbing projects

PLUTES 100: Final Assessment and Certification

  • Completion of a plumbing project
  • Final assessment and evaluation of skills
  • Successful completion of the program leads to the award of the Diploma in Plumbing Technician.

Students have to contact the school administration if they want to take extra credits or transfer credits to pursue the Diploma Certificate or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in their field of interest.  Students will select required number courses in each of the areas listed to meet general education requirements graduation for the A.A.S.  Some of these courses can be transferred directly from and to the university system and may be substituted for recommended courses on the outline.  Students should speak with an advisor before doing so these selective courses are required for all students.
