Philadelphia Institute of Science and Technology

Aviation

Aviation is the field or the science of building and flying airplanes. At PHILLY-TECH, students will learn about the blueprint for the airplane, the mechanics, the frame and the electric functions, and electronic equipment of an airplane. Students have options such as the maintenance or flying an airplane or a drone. Students will experience the different sectors of the aviation industry, commercial, general, and military aviation. After graduation, students will work in the Aviation Industry in areas such as airplane manufacturing, designing and developing various aircraft, handling production and operations, and flying or repairing aircraft.

Airport Operation Maintenance

At PHILLY-TECH, students will learn the operations, organizing and oversight maintenance programs as well as efficiency for airport facilities and systems. Students will learn about sustaining punctuality, performance, and safety. Airport Operations Maintenance students will learn how to perform regular inspections, enforce any required changes in the process, and take care of any problems or customer complaints.

Students will learn about multiple buildings maintenance, and equipment to maintain from conveyer belts to HVAC systems, using different facility operation software. At the same time, students will learn how to reduce labor and energy costs, manage inventory, evaluate asset performance, and ensure safety.

Avionic and Radar Maintenance

The electronic systems used on aircraft, artificial satellites, and spacecraft is called avionic. At PHILLY-TECH student will learn about different operations and maintenances of avionic systems, communications, and navigation systems. Students will learn the avionic covers, the internal sensors, and control systems within an aircraft, from airborne communication and navigation systems to stealth aircraft design and flight control systems.

Students will learn about different avionics of the airplane’s electronic instruments, such as radio communication devices and equipment, radar systems, and navigation aids.

Aviation Management

Aviation manager is responsible for maintaining aircraft maintenance records, keeping current with inspection schedules and ensuring compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. PHILLY-TECH will teach to the students the overview of how the airports and airlines are managed worldwide. In addition, students will learn to plan, design, operate, and maintain aircrafts and airport runway or landing and takeoff. In this program, students will also learn the security checkpoints, which are used to protect the flight crew, airport workers, and passengers from possible dangers when operating and flying in the plane. PHILLY-TECH’s courses will provide the background information on airlines, aircraft manufacturers, airports and aviation authorities. In Aviation Management at PHILLY-TECH students will learn the aspects of management, including marketing, accounting, finance management, business communication, sales, and more.

Aviation Manufacturing

Aircraft Manufacturing is the industry supporting aviation by building aircraft and manufacturing aircraft parts for their maintenance and replacement. At PHILLY-TECH Students will learn about the different aircraft and parts used for civil aviation and military aviation. Students will learn about production and the types of certificates and Defense Standards issued by the U.S. federal government’s regulations.
Students will experience the operation of and different equipment used to build and maintain aircrafts. Students will learn about the metals, material used in the aircraft manufacturing industry include steel, aluminum, titanium and their alloys, and learn the use of automation equipment in the factory and the importance of the check lists.

Air Traffic control and Navigation

Air traffic control is provided by ground-based air traffic controllers who direct aircraft on the ground and in controlled airspace; they also inform air crew about non-controlled airspace. PHILLY-TECH, students will learn about operations and equipment used in the air traffic control and navigation systems.

Students will learn how to prevent ground and air collisions, how to organize the flow of air traffic, and provide information and other support for pilots.
