Construction

There are three different sectors of construction – buildings, infrastructure and industrial:
1. Building construction is divided into residential and non-residential.
2. Industrial construction is construction of Factories, Warehouses, Institutional Building and Sports Facilities.
3. Infrastructure or heavy civil construction is construction of roads, tunnels, bridges airports etc.

Residential Construction

Residential construction is both single and multi-family dwellings (i.e. single-units, manufactured housing, such as mobile homes and pre-built houses, duplexes, quadplexes, apartment buildings as well as condominiums).

At PHILLY-TECH, students will learn about blueprints and building environment systems (electricity, HVAC, plumbing). In addition, students will learn about building structure (framing, carpentry, masonry and concrete) and construction material as well as the building permit process.

Commercial Construction

Infrastructure construction is heavy construction, which includes infrastructure projects and large buildings. At PHILLY-TECH, students will learn the develop and repair, different maintain services for infrastructure such as bridges, dams, pipelines, road networks, ports, and railways.

PHILLY-TECH’S students will learn the general skills and application of national codes required in infrastructure construction. After graduation, students will be qualified to work in those different industries such as: highways, streets, and roads, bridges, mass transit, airports, and airways.

Industrial Commercial Construction

Industrial construction refers to the construction of a business that manufactures goods (i.e. manufacturing plants, power plants, refineries, solar wind farms etc.).

PHILLY-TECH’S students will learn the technical skills in planning, construction, and design of industrial construction. Students will learn about maintenance and repairs of industrial commercial structures.

Building Management

Building Management System (BMS) is a control system used to monitor and manage building environment systems such as mechanical, electrical and electromechanical services.

At PHILLY-TECH, students will learn about the building management system through business courses in management, accounting and human resource management. Students will learn the application of software and the computer based system in the building maintenance for the safety of the building operation.

Electrical

At PHILLY-TECH, students will learn the general electricity systems in residential, commercial and industrial structures. Students can choose to graduate with specialization in either residential, commercial, or industrial. Students will learn about the different materials that are used in residential, commercial, and industrial spaces and learn how to wire and maintain different electrical systems.

PHILLY-TECH will help the graduates with extra training to get their licenses.

Framing

Framing is the methods and techniques by which the supportive framework for buildings are created. At PHILLY-TECH, students will learn about vertical and horizontal components known as studs and joists which are connected to provide a stable frame for walls, ceilings and floors.

PHILLY-TECH’s students will learn about different building framing such as heavy and light frame in residential, commercial and industrial structures. PHILLY-TECH’s students will also learn about materials that apply in those difference construction. Students will also learn about the structure loads which are the forces that get to applied to structures such as wind, gravity, snow, and earthquakes.

Construction Management

Construction management is a professional service that provides an effective management of the project’s schedule, cost, quality, safety, scope, and project delivery methods.

PHILLY-TECH’s students learn about the business side of the construction including: planning, organizing, negotiating, and managing risk. Students will learn project management methodologies and technological solutions to plan a project.

Plumbing

In PHILLY-TECH’s general plumbing program, students will learn about residential, commercial and industrial plumbing. Students will learn about water supply and wastewater drainage systems for residential, commercial and industrial structures. PHILLY-TECH program is based on the extensive and sophisticated nature of plumbing in these different three different field of plumbing.

PHILLY-TECH’s students will learn about the plumbing different material and their applications. Student will learn the sanitary drainage, stormwater drainage and potable water.

Heating Ventilation and Air Condition HVAC

HVAC stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in the facility or the building. At PHILLY-TECH, students will learn both systems heating and cooling of the facility including the equipment like furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductwork, thermostats, the comfort controls. PHILLY-TECH’s program provides experiences in maintenance and the installation of both systems. Students will learn about the four categories: split systems, hybrid systems, duct-free systems, and packaged heating and air systems.

Fire Alarm and Sprinkler System

A fire alarms are the warning devices to help reduce loss of life and belongings in the event of a fire in a building. At PHILLY-TECH, students will learn about the two types of fire alarms, the manual initiating devices which are manual pull-down stations that can only be activated by hand and the automatic initiating devices which trigger automatically in the presence of fire. PHILLY-TECH’s program includes the ionization, photoelectric, and combination alarms systems. In addition, PHILLY-TECH’s sprinkler program is based on the maintenance and the installation of sprinkler systems.

Interior Design

Urban Planning

City planning or urban planning is focused on the quality of life in cities. Urban planning includes: population growth, zoning, economic development, geographic mapping, park space, water supply, transportation, food supply, healthcare and social services, the impact of land use.

PHILLY-TECH’s students will learn about the urban planning, design, and regulation of the uses of space. Students will learn how to organize the social and economic relations in space following government regulations. Students will learn about the efficiency in order to combine the infrastructure, transport, landscapes and community facilities without conflicting effects.

Road and High Way Maintenance

At PHILLY-TECH, students will learn the difference between masonry and concrete, where the masonry is based on the bricks, stones, and blocks used in contrast concrete refers to a type of cement mixed.

Students will learn how to build a structure with bricks, blocks or stones, and students will learn about different mixtures of concrete based on the type of structure. Students will learn about different types of cement and reinforcement system of the structure such as the use of rebars.

Cosmetology Science and Management

PHILLY-TECH’s cosmetology program is based on the science of beautifying and improving the human body such as the skin, nails, and hair. Students will learn the application of the products used in the process.

At PHILLY-TECH, students will learn about the science involved in the cosmetics, hair care, perfume and toiletry products and how they affect different types of hair and skin.
